Smoke alarms

Do you have a functioning smoke alarm in your house? Are there enough to detect smoke allowing all of your loved ones to exit the building safely? Are they tested and working?

Smoke alarms are devices that detect smoke and sound an alarm when activated. Smoke alarms alert and wake people allowing valuable time to get out of a house during a fire.

We can install a hard-wired smoke alarm, which connects to your home's electrical system. It also has a battery back-up power supply.

Did you know in Queensland that it is a legal requirement to have a smoke alarm fitted in a dwelling?

Hard-wired smoke alarms are required in all new and significantly renovated homes and units built since July 1997. These need to be installed by a licensed electrician.

Smoke alarms must be fitted between any area containing bedrooms and the rest of the house or unit e.g. hallways.

Do smoke alarms need to be replaced?

Both hard-wired and battery operated smoke alarms are manufactured to have a recommended service life of at least 10 years under normal conditions of use.
